Julien Jâlal Eddine Weiss (1953-2015), was a french musician, who fell in love with arabic music and culture, and dedicated his life to the preservation and revitalization of the ancient traditions. With the musician of the Ensemble Al-Kindi, which he founded in 1983, he explored the richness and diversity of arabs maqams, sufi traditions from Syria, Tunisian Malouf, Iraki Maqam....with the most amazing singers from these regions. He was altogether a "passeur" of these traditions, a virtuoso of the qanun, a musical director, an ethnomusicologist. He recorded many albums which are now references for many musician, and gave hundred of concerts throughout the world, from Europe to Australia, Hong Kong to Brazil and United States. To be closer to the culture and the musician, he settled himself in Aleppo in 2004 where he bought an old house in the middle of the very ancient city, which became a renowned music room for private concerts. For the past years, he spent his life between Aleppo and Istanbul.
